To be considered as a qualifying candidate for an appetite suppressant prescription our patients must have a Body Mass Index or BMI greater than what is considered a health-weight range according to the FDA.
BMI helps determines one’s optimal weight based on height. This number can inform our clinicians if a patient is underweight, healthy weight or overweight. If you are unsure of your BMI our licensed clinicians can help assist with calculating this number or click here for an online BMI calculator.
Underweight: BMI is less than 18.5
Healthy Weight: BMI is 18.5-24.9
Overweight: BMI is 25-29.9
Obese: BMI is 30 or more
Patients with a BMI of 24 and lower may not be eligible for an appetite suppressant prescription from our clinic. Patients within this BMI range have to be assessed by our clinician to determine if any weight loss treatment that includes appetite suppressants are appropriate, as BMI indexes are not fully inclusive or indicative of health status.
Patients with a BMI of 25 or above are eligible for appetite suppressant prescriptions, so long as the patient does not have any contraindications to the use of appetite suppressants. Our clinician will determine if any contraindications exist for each patient. Patients are individually evaluated for the determination of the appropriate oral prescription medications, injections, supplements and lifestyle changes indicated for weight loss.
